Artepaliativo ↗ is an organization that accompanies people with advanced or terminal illnesses through the creative process with the aim of improving their quality of life and encouraging emotional well-being. They are currently active in various centers and hospitals.
Artepaliativo has been actively working in Residencia Sant Miquel (Sant Miquel de Gonteres, Barcelona) giving group art and emotion workshops. From January 2019, we began collaborating with them, providing human resources for the realization and follow-up to these workshops.
RECIPIENTS | Elderly residents at the retirement home, Residencia Sant Miquel (Sant Miquel de Gonteres, Barcelona).
METHODOLOGY | Bi-weekly group art and emotion workshops. Patients were offered a variety of materials and resources to work with, such as painting, music and photography (Art Legacy ↗), in order to encourage the individual artistic development and expression of participants in the company of the art therapists that guided the group.
OBJECTIVES | Through artistic creation, the communicative and cognitive areas of the brain (memory, creativity and imagination) are stimulated. In addition, by promoting active participation in the expression of their feelings, the sessions contributed to greater concentration, self-esteem and autonomy in the participants – they promoted social interaction and decreased stress and anxiety, while encouraging focus on the here and now.
COLLABORATION PERIOD | January 2019 - June 2019 (10 group sessions)
